Tatarstan is among the top three regions in Russia for the number of scientific SMEs.

      Tatarstan has become one of the leaders in the country in terms of the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the scientific field: the republic has over 850 such enterprises. This corresponds to 4% of the total number of scientific SMEs in Russia and secures the region third place in the national ranking. Tatarstan shares the third position with the Moscow region.

      Leading in this segment are Moscow (over 30% of the country's scientific SMEs) and St. Petersburg (10%). In total, there are over 24,000 scientific enterprises operating in Russia. Their average age exceeds 9 years — which is higher than the overall average for the SME segment. In Tatarstan, this figure is 8 years, while the average for the Russian sector is 7.5 years. The republic has a wide range of support measures for scientific SMEs — both financial and non-financial. Entrepreneurs have access to preferential loans, guarantee support, and preferential leasing of equipment. In addition, Tatarstan regularly conducts competitive selections for grants for fundamental and applied research.

      Assistance is provided by the Non-Profit Microcredit Company "Entrepreneurship Support Fund of RT" (subordinate to the Ministry of Economy of the republic). The fund helps with the payment for certification, participation in exhibitions (including as part of a collective stand), as well as with the development of corporate identity, marketing materials, and positioning strategies. Co-financing of part of the costs is provided: for example, up to 70% (but no more than 500,000 rubles) for certification, and up to 90% (but no more than 400,000 rubles) for branding. The remaining part of the expenses is borne by the company.

      Additionally, scientific enterprises can take advantage of federal support tools. In particular, the Foundation for the Promotion of Small Forms of Enterprises in the Scientific and Technical Sphere implements the "UMNIK" program for young scientists and their developments.

      Also, at the regional Center "My Business," entrepreneurs can undergo training and receive consultations on the commercialization of developments and protection of intellectual property.

      Support for scientific business in Tatarstan is provided by the Ministry of Economy of the republic and subordinate organizations within the framework of the national project "Effective and Competitive Economy."
