A pet dog died of rabies in the Moscow district of Kazan.
In early July, a pet dog died from rabies in the Moscow district of Kazan. The animal died in just three days. A quarantine has been imposed around the house on Shamil Usmanov Street within a radius of 500 meters, reports TNV. Veterinary service employees began visiting apartments—floor by floor, entrance by entrance. Unvaccinated animals are vaccinated on the spot, and preventive talks are held with residents. Many agree to vaccinate their pets without much persuasion. "It's better not to take risks—this could cost more. Dogs and people can get sick," says one of the residents of the building.
The owner of the deceased dog reported that she adopted it from a shelter two months ago. During a walk, the animal ate something on the street and felt unwell. Initially, the family thought the dog was just poisoned—there was no light sensitivity or fear of water; the pet was simply getting weaker. The animal's body is currently being examined in a laboratory. The owner and her family members are already undergoing treatment. All neighbors who came into contact with the dog have been advised by doctors to visit a clinic.
Veterinarians remind that rabies may not manifest much in the early stages—the animal begins to hide, gnaw on foreign objects, its appetite changes, and only later may it attack its owner. This is why timely vaccination of pets remains the only reliable protection.
