      According to the materials of the criminal case, in 2021, the man sold a "ZIL" brand car under a sales contract. However, the new owner was in no hurry to register the car in his name. The previous owner also did not remove it from the registration account. As a result, for several years, taxes on the vehicle were charged in the name of the latter. Then, in 2026, the Bugulmin resident decided to deregister the car himself, but by that time he had lost the sales contract.

      To avoid paying the tax, the man sought help from artificial intelligence. The "smart speaker" responded that no tax is charged on a vehicle that is stolen. Then, in March 2026, the Bugulmin resident went to the police, claiming that the car had been stolen. When the deception was uncovered, a criminal case was initiated against him.

      "[The defendant] has been found guilty of committing a crime under part 1 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and he has been sentenced to a fine," the press service of the Bugulma City Court stated.
