How to safely burn trash and make bonfires: rules and prohibitions
In the summer season, many residents burn trash or light bonfires. To prevent fires and comply with the law, it is important to follow the established requirements.
Where and how it is allowed to burn trash
For safe waste burning, a special place must be equipped. This can be a pit at least 0.3 meters deep and up to 1 meter in diameter or a metal container (barrel, tank, grill) with a volume of no more than 1 cubic meter. The main thing is that the structure prevents the spread of flames and the falling of burning materials outside its boundaries. The distance to the nearest buildings must be at least 50 meters, to coniferous forests — 100 meters, and to deciduous forests — 30 meters. The area around the burning site must be cleared within a radius of 10 meters from dry grass, fallen branches, and other combustible materials, and a firebreak strip at least 0.4 meters wide must be created. It is mandatory to have fire extinguishing equipment (fire extinguisher, shovel, bucket of water) and a mobile phone to call the fire department. To quickly cut off the oxygen supply, the burning container must be equipped with a metal sheet that tightly covers it from above.
How to safely light a fire for cooking
If you use a grill or barbecue in your garden, the distance to buildings can be reduced to 5 meters, and the clearing zone around it to 2 meters. Other safety requirements remain in effect.
When open flames are prohibited
It is strictly forbidden to light bonfires and burn trash:
on peat soils;
during the introduction of a special fire safety regime;
during storm warnings and strong winds;
under the crowns of coniferous trees;
in containers with burnt walls;
at wind speeds over 5 m/s (without a metal container) or over 10 m/s (in any container).
What is strictly prohibited when burning
When using open flames, it is not allowed to:
burn flammable liquids (except for ignition aids), explosive and toxic substances;
leave the fire unattended until it is completely extinguished or smoldering;
store flammable liquids and materials near the fire source.
How to properly extinguish the fire
After finishing burning, be sure to cover the area with sand or soil or pour water on it to ensure no smoldering embers remain. Only after this can the work be considered complete.
