Residents of Tatarstan are taking longer to find jobs
Tatarstan residents are spending more time searching for work: the average job search duration has increased to 4.3 months, and the proportion of those searching for a year has quadrupled. In the Republic of Tatarstan, the first quarter of 2026 has recorded an increase in the average time that unemployed residents spend looking for new employment. According to RBC, citing data from a sample survey of the labor force conducted by Rosstat, the average duration of job search in the region was 4.3 months, exceeding the figures from the first quarter of 2025, when it took four months, and from 2024, which had a figure of 4.2 months. Additionally, the survey revealed that more than a quarter of Tatarstan residents – 27.7 percent – manage to find a job in less than a month, although this figure was higher a year ago. One in five job seekers spends between three to six months searching, and their share has increased to 22.2 percent over the year. The most alarming trend is observed in the segment of prolonged searches: the proportion of those who are forced to look for work for nine months to a year has soared to 12.9 percent, whereas a year ago it was only three percent. Meanwhile, the average job search time in Tatarstan remains lower than in the Volga Federal District and across Russia as a whole. It was previously reported that starting this year, Kazan enterprises have paid off nearly half of their wage arrears to employees, disbursing 44 million rubles to 173 employees, thereby reducing the total amount of debt. The total wage arrears in the city at the beginning of this year reached 89.7 million rubles, with 471 individuals listed as employees.
