In Tatarstan, student teams are mastering the river direction.

      A new direction has emerged in the student labor squads of Tatarstan – work on river transport. After training, 32 students from the Institute of Marine and River Fleet are undergoing internships as part of student squads in the professions of helmsman-motorist and sailor. They are gaining their first professional skills and trying themselves in their future specialties. During the opening of the labor season, a voucher for the labor semester was presented to the commander and commissioner of the IMRF squad. An agreement on cooperation between the Republican Center for Student Labor Squads and the Kazan branch of the Institute of Marine and River Fleet named after Hero of the Soviet Union M.P. Devyatayev (VGUVT) was signed in April at the Republican Youth Forum "Work for Youth." Students will work on the vessels of JSC "Fleet of the Republic of Tatarstan." Students from the second year are allowed to work. Before going on practice, they take qualification exams and receive working diplomas. During the navigation period from April to November, they stand watch in the engine room or the wheelhouse, study ship management and the operation of ship systems. Their duties include steering under the supervision of mentors, servicing steering equipment, cleaning, lubricating, and performing current repairs on mechanisms, as well as maintaining order on the bridge and in service areas. This format allows students to gain real work experience in the fleet and apply theory in practice. The director of the Republican Center for Student Labor Squads, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Russian Student Squads Vasily Islaev reported that expanding employment directions and attracting new educational institutions remains one of the key tasks. He reminded that for many years students have been working as conductors of passenger cars, and only in Tatarstan, more than 500 people are employed in this direction annually. According to him, now students will also be able to gain experience in river transport, which will give them the opportunity to try themselves in a new field, and employers – prepared personnel. In 2026, the direction of work on river transport became new for the movement of Russian student squads. Previously, students were mainly attracted to work in railways and road construction. In 2025, more than 22 thousand participants of the movement worked at transport facilities, with the majority of employment in the railway sector. Now river transport has been added to them. The activities of student squads in Tatarstan are coordinated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Republic in accordance with the goals of the national project "Youth and Children."
