The Republic of Tatarstan demonstrated a confident growth in revenues from the tourist tax in the first half of 2026, which continues to gain momentum and becomes an increasingly noticeable item for replenishing local budgets.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tatarstan, from January to June of this year, 93 million rubles of this tax were received in the municipal treasury, which exceeds the figure for the same period in 2025 by a full 60 million rubles, writes RBC. This indicates the growing attractiveness of the region for travelers and the effectiveness of the collection administration mechanism. In total, for the year 2026, revenues from the tourist tax to local budgets are projected to amount to 277 million rubles. Kazan as the main center of attraction The absolute leader in the collection of the tourist tax is the capital of the republic, which annually welcomes millions of guests. Kazan accounted for eighty percent of the total revenues to the local budgets of Tatarstan: from January to June 2026, the city received 74.6 million rubles, which is 47.1 million rubles more than in the first half of 2025. This dynamics is explained not only by the high tourist flow but also by the wide range of hotels and accommodations that are taxpayers of this tax. In addition to Kazan, the tourist tax has been collected since the beginning of 2025 in several other locations in the republic with high tourist potential: in Zelenodolsk, Bolgar, as well as in seven settlements of the Verkhneuslonsky district, four settlements of the Zelenodolsky district, and three settlements of the Spassky district. At the same time, the department clarified that in 2026 the tourist tax was not introduced in other municipal formations of the Republic of Tatarstan. Prospects and rate growth The Ministry of Finance of the republic reminded that the tax is paid by organizations and individual entrepreneurs providing temporary accommodation services, no later than the 28th of the month following the expired tax period, which is recognized as a quarter for this collection. This explains the fact that tax revenues for the first quarter of 2025 were absent, and the money received in the first quarter of 2026 in the amount of 43.3 million rubles are payments for the fourth quarter of 2025. It is important to note that the tourist tax rate in 2026 increased by one percentage point and now stands at two percent of the accommodation cost. In the next three years, it will continue its steady growth: in 2027, the rate should be three percent, in 2028 – four percent, and in 2029 reach the maximum possible five percent. This will contribute to further growth in local budget revenues from tourist activities. It was previously reported that enterprises in Tatarstan increased the volume of dairy product exports by 7.4 million dollars. The largest growth was demonstrated by whey.
