Journalists from How-To Geek warned that the built-in memory of a smartphone is not the best place for valuable information. According to them, if something happens to the device, accumulated photos, videos, and documents may become inaccessible. The authors also noted that the price of the phone increases along with the storage capacity, so overpaying for versions with 512 GB, 1 TB, and more is not always justified. Ample storage is convenient for large amounts of data, but they do not recommend keeping key files on it.
Instead, journalists recommend buying smartphones with basic memory and storing backups of important information on a home hard drive. Another option is to additionally duplicate data in cloud storage.
At the end of July, the publication SlashGear listed Android smartphones that will receive updates until 2030. This list includes the Samsung Galaxy S24, Google Pixel 8, and other models.
