Grigory Zaslavsky has left the position of rector of GITIS.
The rector of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts - GITIS, Grigory Zaslavsky, has left his position. The acting rector has been appointed as the chief accountant of the university, Olga Ermakova. This was reported by the university's press service on its Telegram channel. The university stated that Zaslavsky left the post of head of the university today at his own request. The document releasing him from his position was approved by the head of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Olga Lyubimova. Zaslavsky has headed GITIS since 2016, succeeding Karina Melik-Pashaeva, who left after reaching the age of 70. Zaslavsky is currently 58 years old. Under his leadership, the university participated in federal projects to support theatrical education and also developed international cooperation. The reasons for his departure have not been specified. Before his appointment as rector, he worked as a theatre critic. He holds a PhD in philology - he defended his dissertation on the tragedy of Yakov Knyazhin "Roslav." He has been awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia. In 1990, he became one of the co-founders of the Helikon-Opera theatre along with director Dmitry Bertman and actor Alexander Pashkovsky. Later, he collaborated with the magazines "Moscow Observer" and "Musical Life," worked as a theatre reviewer on "Radio Russia," as well as on the radio stations "Nadezhda," "Govorит Moskva," and "Mayak-24," where from 2001 to 2007 he headed the culture department and was deputy director of the information directorate.
