In Tatarstan, 19 counterfeit banknotes were found in three months.

      In the second quarter of 2026, 19 counterfeit banknotes were identified in the banking sector of Tatarstan. This data is provided by the Central Bank of Russia. The majority of the discovered counterfeits were 5000 ruble banknotes — specialists found 16 such bills. Additionally, two counterfeit banknotes of 1000 rubles and one banknote of 500 rubles were identified in the republic. One counterfeit banknote of 100 US dollars was also discovered. The Central Bank reminded that the authenticity of money can be checked independently. For this, it is necessary to pay attention to at least three security features. Among them are watermarks and security threads that are visible when examining the banknote against the light, relief elements that can be felt by touch, as well as rainbow stripes or changing numbers when tilting the banknote. Specialists recommend checking banknotes before they enter the wallet.
