According to sources, this week he left the position of head of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region at his own request. The decree was signed by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. General Akhmetshin has been working in the investigation since 1995 — since his university days. He was the deputy prosecutor of the Novosavinovsky district, headed the Zarechensky interdistrict department of the investigative committee under the prosecutor's office, and in 2010 became the deputy head of the Investigative Committee for Tatarstan Pavel Nikolaev. Airat Sayetovich supervised the work of particularly important departments, and under his supervision, the investigation of all high-profile criminal cases in Tatarstan took place. Thus, Akhmetshin entered the federal reserve of the investigative committee. In 2017, Akhmetshin was appointed head of the investigative committee for the Kirov region, where he initiated a high-profile criminal case regarding fraud with "KAMAZ" engines, within which several dozen entrepreneurs and the head of the regional traffic police were detained. Two years later, Akhmetshin was offered to head the investigative committee of the Nizhny Novgorod region, where he worked for several terms. The position of chief federal inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan became vacant in June — Viktor Demidov resigned. According to sources from the publication, the former head of Akhmetshin — Nikolaev — also claimed this position.

      The chief federal inspector for Tatarstan oversees compliance with federal legislation in the republic and reports to the federal center. In addition, the inspector coordinates personnel for all federal positions, as well as for the appointment of federal judges.
