      How to choose a sweet treat

      Watermelons and melons are already on the shelves, but not all of them are safe. At a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marina Prokofyeva, Deputy Head of the Rospotrebnadzor Office for Tatarstan, explained what to pay attention to when buying and why it is not advisable to buy watermelons near roads.

      The seller must have accompanying documents - a declaration of conformity and documents confirming the origin of the products.

      - Consumers have the right to request these documents from the seller and examine them, - Prokofyeva reminded.

      The place of sale for melons in the market must be fenced and have a canopy. Watermelons and melons should not be lying on the ground - only on shelves or racks, and they must be removed from the street at night. Sanitary rules do not allow cutting a piece of watermelon or melon for demonstration purposes and selling melons in parts.

      It is recommended to buy watermelons and melons in trusted stores and markets, rather than at spontaneous points near roads, at bus stops, or along highways.

      - Such sellers usually do not have documents confirming the safety of the products, - emphasized the representative of Rospotrebnadzor.

      To date, 7 samples of melon crops have been taken. One sample of the "torpedo" melon from Uzbekistan was found to have elevated nitrate levels. The entire remaining batch has been withdrawn from sale. Monitoring of another 15 samples and four inspections of melon sellers are planned for August.

      If a consumer has doubts about the quality of the product, they have the right to contact the seller with a complaint. If the seller does not satisfy it, they can contact Rospotrebnadzor.

      - Adhering to all the above rules will allow you to get only positive emotions and impressions from summer vacations, - summarized Marina Prokofyeva.
