A native of Zainsk, Arthur Mavrin, a student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Lomonosov Moscow State University, became a prizewinner at one of the largest international student mathematics competitions. At the IMC (International Mathematics Competition), he won a second-degree diploma. This year, the competition took place from July 27 to August 3 in the Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad. The IMC has been held since 1994 on the initiative of University College London (UCL) and is considered one of the most prestigious international competitions for mathematics students. In 2026, about 500 students from 48 countries participated in the competition. Students from the 1st to 6th year, aged up to 24, competed for victory. Participants solved problems individually; however, universities traditionally send teams of their strongest students to the competition.

Five problems in five hours.
The competition consists of two contest days. Each day, participants must solve five complex problems within five hours. They require not only deep mathematical knowledge but also the ability to find unconventional approaches to solutions. The tasks cover the main areas of higher mathematics — algebra, mathematical analysis, geometry, and combinatorics. As a result of the competition, Arthur Mavrin received a second-degree diploma, demonstrating a high level of preparation and representing Russian mathematical education well on the international stage.
An achievement that Zainsk is proud of.
For his hometown of Zainsk, the success of their fellow countryman holds special significance. Today, Arthur continues his studies at one of the leading mathematics faculties in the country. His result at the international competition is a testament to serious preparation, passion for mathematics, and the ability to tackle complex problems. Arthur Mavrin's achievement has become a source of pride for both his university and his hometown of Zainsk, where they closely follow the successes of talented locals.
