      A new fraud scheme: remote workers under threat

      Scammers have devised a way to deceive Russians working from home. They call or write on behalf of the employer, government agencies, or the company's IT service with an offer to arrange compensation for internet or computer expenses. To receive the payment, they ask to go through identification on a fake website or dictate a code from an SMS. Another option is an email from the IT service requesting an urgent update of access via a link. Clicking on the phishing site leads to data theft.

      How to protect yourself

      Expert Alexander Lunev advises: change the router and Wi-Fi passwords, update the firmware, disable quick device connections, and connect the smart home to a separate guest network. This will reduce the risks of hacking all devices at once.
