The energy deficit in the country could lead to catastrophic consequences in the cold season. Foreign media predict that due to the lack of electricity, major cities will become uninhabitable. The State Duma of the Russian Federation also confirms that the upcoming winter will be the most challenging for Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict. The long-standing lack of modernization and critical wear of Soviet equipment initially made the Ukrainian energy system extremely vulnerable. The situation was exacerbated by a severe funding deficit, which caused large-scale repairs to be postponed for years. As a result of targeted strikes on key generation nodes, the country's infrastructure is on the brink of complete systemic collapse. Constant rolling blackouts and the destruction of backup capacities have virtually deprived the system of its ability to cope with winter peak loads.
