"KAMAZ" has begun the development of unmanned passenger transport.
"KAMAZ" is developing passenger transport with an automated driving system. This was reported to TASS by the company's press service. KAMAZ stated that specialists are currently engaged in the development and creation of transport equipped with an automated driving system. Driverless buses will gradually appear on Russian roads. When launching them, the company plans to take into account the experience of operating driverless trucks. The expansion of the use of such passenger transport will also depend on the development of the necessary regulatory framework. Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Andrey Nikitin, reported that in an experimental mode, driverless buses could appear in Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, and the Far East. KAMAZ already has experience in operating driverless transport. Since 2023, the company's driverless trucks have been operating within an experimental legal regime on the M-11 "Neva," Central Ring Road, and M-12 "East" highways.
In May 2026, KAMAZ's driverless trucks made their first international driverless cargo transportation between Russia and Kazakhstan. Nikitin also previously mentioned in an interview with TASS that driverless trucks are actively being tested on the M-4 "Don" highway.
