In Kazan, pigeons are dying en masse
In various districts of Kazan, residents have started noticing dead pigeons. According to eyewitness reports, this is far from an isolated case, causing concern among the townspeople. Reports indicate that instances of pigeon deaths are being recorded in different parts of the city. For example, dead birds have been observed in Uritsky Park and on Baumana Street, found near pedestrian paths and along the shores of water bodies. This has raised serious alarms, as the causes of these events are still unknown, and uncertainties have led to fears of possible infection spread or poisoning. According to local residents, in some areas of the city, several dead pigeons can be seen on a small plot. City services have yet to comment on the situation regarding the bird deaths. Experts suggest that the mass die-off could be directly related to seasonal diseases. They also note that it could result from adverse environmental factors. Elena Chernova, a researcher with the Union of Bird Conservation of Russia, explained that during the summer, outbreaks of diseases among pigeons are often observed. One of the most common, she said, is Newcastle disease (also known as "twisting disease"). Mortality rates in affected birds can reach up to 50 percent. It is also possible that the birds are dying from simple poisonings, either from eating contaminated food accidentally or from intentionally using toxic baits. The expert assured that, if basic hygiene rules are followed, there is no reason to fear a negative impact on humans.
