Deputies of the State Council of Tatarstan have prepared a bill aimed at reducing the number of accidents involving children behind the wheel of vehicles such as minibikes and ATVs. The initiative proposes banning retail sales of gasoline to minors. The bill was drafted by several deputies from the parties "United Russia," "New People," and the CPRF. They believe that this law will help prevent the death of children on the roads who ride minibikes and ATVs. According to the document, it is proposed to ban fueling minors under 16 years old at gas stations in Tatarstan. The ban will not depend on the type of vehicle or whether the minor has a driver’s license. For violators who continue to sell gasoline to minors, fines of 3,000 to 5,000 rubles are proposed for individuals. For officials and organizations, the fines will be significantly higher. The bill has been submitted for consideration by the republic’s State Council. If adopted, relevant amendments will be made to the Administrative Offenses Code of Tatarstan. It is worth recalling that last year, the head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, addressed this issue. He stated that a child behind the wheel of a minibike or ATV creates a danger to themselves and others. Accidents involving adolescents driving minibikes occur quite frequently in Tatarstan, sometimes resulting in fatalities. Against this background, one of the gas station chains previously issued a self-initiated ban on selling gasoline to minors under 16 who do not have a driver’s license. In the explanatory note to the bill, statistics from the traffic police of Tatarstan are provided, which show that last year, the number of accidents involving minors on motorized transport increased by 40%.
