All hotels, guesthouses, sanatoriums and holiday resorts in Russia must undergo a self-assessment and classification procedure to be included in the federal register. Otherwise, from September they may face fines and removal from aggregators.

In the Republic of Tatarstan only 50% of hotels, sanatoriums and holiday resorts have met the new Rosaccreditation requirements. Now, as Vechernyaya Kazan reports, those who do not comply with the new requirements face large fines and exclusion from online booking services. Officials clarified that the fine for those who ignore the new rules may range from 300,000 to 450,000 rubles. To date, in the republic only 256 of the 502 registered accommodation facilities have completed the mandatory self-assessment, and there is almost no time left to rectify the situation: the deadline expires this autumn. “We expected that by the beginning of August 70–75% of facilities would complete the procedure, since work has been underway since the beginning of the year,” said Yuliya Danilina, head of the Rosaccreditation Office for the Volga Federal District, at a meeting.

Under the new rules, hotel owners must fill out a questionnaire on the Rosaccreditation portal, providing information about room equipment, the condition of the building and the services offered. This is necessary to confirm or assign a category—from one to five stars. Authorities assure that the procedure itself takes no more than two hours, and previously issued certificates remain valid. To renew them, it is necessary to contact specialized accredited organizations. At the same time, despite low activity among some hoteliers, the Republic of Tatarstan continues to be among the top 20 Russian regions in terms of the pace of transition to the new standards.
