      Ahead of the new epidemic season of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), Rospotrebnadzor advises following a number of preventive measures to protect your health.

      1. Wash your hands frequently with soap.

      Hand hygiene is an important preventive measure against the spread of influenza, ARVI and coronavirus infection. Washing hands with soap effectively removes viruses. If you do not have the opportunity to wash your hands, use hand sanitizers. After visiting public places or traveling on public transport, be sure to wash not only your hands but also your face. Also remember to regularly disinfect surfaces such as tables, door handles and gadgets to eliminate viruses.

      2. Keep your distance and observe cough and sneeze etiquette.

      Viruses are transmitted by respiratory droplets, so keep at least 1.5 meters away from people showing signs of illness. Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth. Wearing a mask can help reduce the risk of transmission. When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with disposable tissues and dispose of them immediately.

      3. Lead a healthy lifestyle.

      A healthy lifestyle increases the body's resistance to infections. Maintain a daily routine, get sufficient sleep, eat foods rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, and engage in physical activity.

      4. Use medical masks

      Masks limit the spread of viruses. Wear them in the following cases:

      • When visiting places with large gatherings of people, including public transport, during periods of rising incidence.

      • When caring for people with acute respiratory viral infections.

      • When interacting with people showing signs of illness.

      5. Mask-wearing rules

      To protect yourself from infection, it is important to wear a mask correctly:

      • The mask should fit snugly to the face, covering the mouth and nose.

      • Wash your hands or treat them with sanitizer before removing the mask.

      • Try not to touch the outer surface of the mask when removing it.

      • The mask should be changed every 2 hours.

      • Do not reuse a disposable mask; discard it immediately after use.
