A "second-hand" service to protect against scammers is available to Tatarstan residents.

      Since September 1, residents of Tatarstan can enable additional protection for banking transactions through a system of confirmation by trusted persons.

      From September 1 of this year, bank customers gained the ability to enable a service of additional verification of transactions through trusted persons. As reported by Elena Kirsanova, head of the economic department of the Branch — the National Bank for the Republic of Tatarstan of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia, the new system allows appointing a trusted person to confirm suspicious transactions. The feature of the service is that the trusted person does not gain access to bank accounts but can block suspicious transactions for twelve hours. The user independently determines the list of operations and the amount limits that require additional confirmation. The procedure to disable the service takes up to twenty-four hours, which eliminates the possibility of an instant cancellation of protection under the influence of fraudsters.

      The new mechanism is intended to protect financially vulnerable categories of citizens, especially the elderly, and also provides parental control over minors’ transactions. According to the Bank of Russia, this will help prevent teenagers from being drawn into illegal financial schemes. The service is available at all credit institutions operating in the republic.
