      Today, a solemn closing ceremony of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Sports Cup among veterans and participants of the special military operation took place in the concert hall of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism. The participants and winners of the final stage of the competition were greeted on behalf of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, the parliament and the Government of the republic by the Chairman of the State Council, Farid Mukhametshin.

      The head of the parliament noted that the Sports Cup among veterans and participants of the SMO is being held this year for the first time at the initiative of the Rais of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov. “The establishment and holding of this Cup has demonstrated its demand among participants and veterans of the special military operation,” Farid Mukhametshin said. “Today’s ceremony honoring the winners is another opportunity to express our respect and gratitude to the men who voluntarily decided to stand up to defend our Fatherland.”

      Farid Mukhametshin thanked the competitors for their sporting spirit and will to win not only on the battlefield but also in the sporting arena. The head of the parliament emphasized that everything possible is being done in Tatarstan to support SMO participants and their families, and both federal and republican programs are being implemented. “The state authorities of our republic and municipal authorities in the cities and districts are taking all measures to provide every possible assistance both to the fighters in the SMO zone and to those returning home,” Farid Mukhametshin stressed. “You are true heroes, which is why you are treated specially, and the Government of the republic finds ways to help you in all your good deeds and endeavors — in study and employment, treatment and rehabilitation, and also supports the families of servicemen. Your persistence and unbreakable character are a real example for the younger generation.”

      As part of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Sports Cup among veterans and SMO participants, Farid Mukhametshin presented medals and Cups to the winners of the volleyball and sitting volleyball competitions. The head of the parliament congratulated everyone on their well-deserved victory.

      Farid Mukhametshin also presented awards to the prize-winning team of the sledge hockey tournament “Tournament of Three,” which took place on August 17 at the State Budgetary Institution “Palace of Sports” in Kazan with the participation of national teams from the Republic of Tatarstan, the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mari El.

      The final of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Cup among participants and veterans of the SMO was held in Kazan from September 4 to 5. Competitions in various sports took place in July–August, with about 200 athlete-veterans of the SMO from 36 municipal districts of Tatarstan taking part.
