Tatarstan is ready to accept over 700 workers from India in 2025.
The quota for recruiting workers from India to Tatarstan as of September 1, 2025, amounted to 707 people, reports RBC Tatarstan citing the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan. By August of this year, 132 Indian citizens had already been employed in the region. In total, the republic’s enterprises submitted information to the Russian Ministry of Labor about plans to hire more than 11,700 foreign workers.
According to the agency, Indian specialists in Tatarstan work on construction sites and in the service sector: they are engaged in the installation of reinforced concrete structures, engineering activities, garment manufacturing and culinary work (as chefs). In addition, one Indian citizen is employed as a teacher, and another as a workshop foreman.
The Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marat Aizatullin, previously noted that Indian specialists are primarily being recruited for construction sites where employees from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia have traditionally worked.
Currently, Indian citizens are employed by such employers as Alabuga Development LLC, sole proprietor Dmitry Valenza, Timerkhan Business Center LLC, the Bolgar Islamic Academy, and the companies Prettl-NK, Ayurveda Malabar and Fashion City.
In 2024, Tatarstan enterprises reported a need for 322 Indian workers. For example, one entrepreneur planned to hire 60 seamstresses, and a retailer — more than 150 employees for picker and dispatcher positions.
At the national level, the quota for employing Indian citizens in 2025 is 71.8 thousand people out of a total of 234.9 thousand foreign workers. By comparison, in 2024 Indians were issued 36.2 thousand work permits, which for the first time placed them second after China, overtaking citizens of Vietnam.
In Tatarstan, the number of labor migrants is estimated at roughly 50,000 people, nearly half of whom are from Uzbekistan. The unemployment rate in the republic remains at 1.7%.
