A Bugulma resident became a suspect in a criminal case after stealing a backpack from a man sleeping on a bench.

      A local resident contacted the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Bugulminsky District with a report of the theft of personal belongings and a mobile phone. The man told police that, exhausted, he sat down on a bench and fell asleep. At that moment an unknown person stole his backpack, which contained a phone, documents, an electric shaver and personal items. During investigative operations, criminal investigators identified a suspect — a 54-year-old local resident. In questioning he confessed, explaining that he saw a sleeping man and a backpack next to him, which he slung over his shoulder and took to work. He used the items from the backpack for personal use. An investigator has opened a criminal case against the Bugulma resident under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). As a preventive measure, the suspect has been placed under a written undertaking not to leave the area and to maintain proper conduct.
