Russia's Greco-Roman wrestling team will be formed based on the results of the tournament in Kazan.

      The All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling competitions are being held in Kazan for the 12th consecutive time. This year the tournament gathered over 450 participants from 60 regions of the country. This is a record number compared to previous years.

      It is worth noting another important fact: based on the results of the All-Russian tournament, the strongest wrestlers will be selected for the Russian national team to take part in international competitions. This was stated by the President of the Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan (RT), Ekzam Gubaidullin.

      “The prestige of this tournament is very high. There is serious competition here and the strongest athletes have been brought together. It is a great vote of confidence that the All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling competitions are being held here in Kazan. It can be said with confidence that Tatarstan contributes to the preparation and development of wrestlers at the Russian level,” Gubaidullin said.

      He also added that this sport is actively developing in the republic in all directions and the prospects for the development of wrestling in Tatarstan are very large. Currently about nine thousand boys and girls are engaged in martial arts. According to Gubaidullin, particular potential is visible among juniors (under 18 and under 21), who perform well not only at Russian but also at international events.

      Nikolai Monov, senior coach of the Russian junior Greco-Roman wrestling team, compared the status of the tournament in Kazan to the Russian Championship and noted that results by Tatarstan athletes are improving every year.

      “If we talk about the results of the wrestlers representing the Republic of Tatarstan, experience grows every year. Primarily because a tournament of this calibre has been held in the capital of Tatarstan for 12 years now. In addition, interest in a healthy lifestyle, including Greco-Roman wrestling, is being popularized and the number of participants is increasing. As a result, there is a cumulative success in this sport among people from Tatarstan,” Monov concluded.

      The Republic of Tatarstan is represented by 15 of the strongest wrestlers from Kazan and nearby cities such as Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk, Zelenodolsk, Bugulma.

      Recall that the 12th All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling tournament was dedicated to the memory of Honored Coach of the RSFSR Myagas Sakhabutdinov. During his coaching career Myagas Sakhabutdinov prepared more than 50 USSR masters of sport in Greco-Roman wrestling and belt wrestling. His daughter and son, Elvira and Salavat Sakhabutdinov, were present as honorary guests at the tournament’s opening ceremony.

      The opening ceremony took place at the Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace on September 13, 2025. First Deputy Minister of Sport of the RT Khalil Shaykhutdinov, President of the Wrestling Federation of the RT Ekzam Gubaidullin, and senior coach of the Russian junior Greco-Roman wrestling team Nikolai Monov addressed participants and guests of the competition with opening remarks.

      The All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling tournament is being held in Kazan at the Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace from September 12 to 15, 2025.
