      Police prevent demonstrators with opposing views from meeting

      Mass rallies with opposing slogans began in London on September 13. One event is against illegal migration, the other in its support.

      Demonstrators opposing illegal migration gathered in the Sazerk area on the south bank of the Thames. They are moving toward the government district of Whitehall. The march is expected to end at Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s residence. The organizer of the march is the founder of the far-right organization English Defence League, Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon).

      At the same time, supporters of migration gathered in north London at Russell Square near the British Museum. They protested under slogans such as “No to racism,” “Women against the far right,” and others. Participants include people from different regions of the UK, including Glasgow.

      Scotland Yard reported that security at the rallies will be provided by more than 1,600 police officers. One of their tasks is to prevent participants of the two marches from meeting.

      Protests against housing illegal migrants in hotels have been taking place across the UK in recent weeks. They began after a refugee from Ethiopia, who was living in a hotel in Epping, was charged with sexual harassment of a 14-year-old girl. The government has pledged to end this practice by 2029.
