While trying to save her granddaughter, a pensioner from Kazan gave scammers 275,000 rubles.
A 77-year-old woman contacted the police. According to the pensioner, during the day a man called her and, introducing himself as a law enforcement officer, reported that her granddaughter had been involved in a traffic accident. The fraudster frightened the elderly woman by saying that her granddaughter faced criminal charges. He also noted that the charges could be avoided if money were handed over to the relatives of the injured party. The pensioner agreed to help her granddaughter and, at the caller’s request, handed an unknown person 275,000 rubles. Only later, after calling her relatives, did she realize she had become a victim of fraudsters. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Kazan recommends: - to avoid becoming a victim of fraudsters, double-check all information received from strangers; - under no circumstances transfer money to strangers; - be vigilant and do not fall for scammers’ tricks; If you have become a victim of a crime, immediately report it to the police by calling “102” or “112”.
