A legal game helped schoolchildren in Zainsk understand their rights and responsibilities.
Schoolchildren learned the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Family Code of the Russian Federation through games and practiced applying legal knowledge to real-life situations.
On September 18, as part of the club “Human. Law. Truth,” staff of the S. Rafikov Central Library organized a legal lesson-game titled “I, you, he, she — we all have rights” for students of class 7 “B” of School No. 4. The event was aimed at improving adolescents’ legal literacy. To better understand the value of the rights of the modern child, the pupils began the session with a historical excursus. They learned about the strict principles of the Spartan system of upbringing and the traditions that existed in Rus' until the 20th century. This allowed the children to realize how attitudes toward children and their rights have changed over time.
The main part of the lesson was held in an interactive format. In the game “Right to a Name” the children reinforced one of their main rights. During the “Legal Consultation” the students examined complex real-life situations, determining who was right in them — adults or children. In the game “An Example from Life” the pupils evaluated the actions of their peers from a legal point of view, tried to identify the elements of a violation and even decide on a punishment that they considered fair.
The children showed particular interest in the quiz “I’m from a Fairy Tale, but I Also Have Rights,” where, using well-known literary characters as examples, they determined which rights of the characters had been violated. For creative expression of their understanding of rights, the children drew colorful posters. The event also featured thematic videos “Rights for Children” and “In the World of Rights and Responsibilities.”
The event took place in a lively and animated atmosphere. The knowledge gained helped the schoolchildren not only to understand the basics of legislation but also to learn to evaluate their own actions and the actions of those around them. The main conclusion reached by the participants was: when exercising their rights, it is important always to respect the rights of others.
