Leaders of the New Era in Kazan: Results of the 23rd Season of the "Leader of the 21st Century. New Horizons" Competition Announced
The 23rd season of the "Leader of the 21st Century. New Horizons" competition concluded in Kazan. Over four days, more than 300 participants from 76 regions of Russia underwent competitive trials, took part in a cultural and educational program, exchanged successful practices, created solutions for developing public initiatives in the field of children’s and youth policy, and also learned how to scale the best of these initiatives across the country. More than 12,000 people from 88 regions of the Russian Federation participated in the competition’s qualifying stages in 2025.
The competition is aimed at developing children’s and youth public movements, preparing personnel for public organizations, and developing a system of professional self-determination for young people in the Russian Federation, and it aligns with the goals of the national project "Youth and Children."
Ksenia Yanova, Deputy Chair of the Board of the Movement of the First, addressed the competition participants:
"Today some of the brightest representatives of the Movement of the First, true leaders of the 21st century, have gathered here. Each of you has traveled a long path, almost half a year in length. During this time you managed to prove to your friends, acquaintances, your relatives, but above all to yourselves, that you deserve to wear the proud title of leader. During the final, over the course of two days, you underwent competitive trials that allowed you to demonstrate your leadership skills from different angles. I am sure that the event’s program also helped you acquire useful knowledge that you will be able to apply upon returning to your regions. I want to note that each of you who is in this hall is already a true winner. A winner for yourself. Thank you!"
The competition was held across 12 nominations for the age groups 14–17 years and 18–25 years – "Being with Russia," "Being Human," "Being Together," "Being in Motion," "Being First," and for 18–25 years – "Mentor of the First," "Counselor of the First." It should be noted that participants from Tatarstan won four first places in different nominations.
"For the fourth year in a row, Tatarstan is hosting the competition final. We are very pleased that our region year after year becomes the venue where talented youth from across the country gather. The project is not about victory, but about meanings, values, and exchange of experience. Participants find new friends and develop their skills. Many managers among us are alumni of this competition. This once again proves the demand for the project among young people," noted Sofya Galieva-Mustafina, First Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The participants were also greeted by the Assistant to the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Council of the regional branch of the All-Russian socio-public-state movement of children and youth "Movement of the First" of the Republic of Tatarstan, Timur Suleymanov; the head of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Republic of Tatarstan – Chief State Sanitary Doctor for the Republic of Tatarstan, Marina Patyashina; the director of the Municipal Budgetary Institution of Youth Policy of Kazan "Association of Youth (Adolescent) Neighborhood Clubs 'Teenager'," Ekaterina Sogrina; and others.
One participant, Victoria Andriyanova from Tatarstan, noted that this was her fourth year taking part in the competition:
"In the first year I participated in the 14–17 age group and became a winner, then I tried my hand in the 18–25 category. Last year I already participated as a curator, and this year I decided again to be a participant in a new nomination, 'Counselor of the First.'
