Cornelius and his family believed in Christ and received Baptism, which marked the beginning of the spread of Christianity among the Gentiles. Later he became a bishop and preached in Asia Minor.

In Rus' this day symbolized the completion of the harvest of root crops. The main dishes on the table were radish and turnip, which were considered symbols of abundance. Newlyweds shared a turnip with honey to strengthen their union.
