The Zakat Charitable Foundation supplied over 150 families with more than 4 tons of gushra.

      Today, on the 4th day of the month of Rabiʿ al-Akhir (September 26), the Charitable Foundation "Zakat" of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan (DUM RT) distributed another batch of gushr-sadaqa to those in need. Vegetables weighing more than 3 tonnes were received by 100 low-income and large (many-children) families, families with children with disabilities, single-parent families with children, and solitary pensioners of Kazan. Since the start of the gushr-sadaqa collection campaign in Tatarstan, the Zakat Charitable Foundation of DUM RT has provided more than 150 families with over 4 tonnes of food from Muslims of the Alekseyevsky, Baltasinsky, Pestrechinsky, Kaybitsky, and Rybno-Slobodsky districts. In total, about 15 tonnes of vegetables are planned to be distributed during the campaign.

      Gushr is a special type of alms in which a Muslim must give the needy one tenth of the harvest obtained during the season. The food collection campaign in aid of the needy has been organized centrally by DUM RT annually in all muhtasibats of the republic since 2017.

      Anyone can bring part of their harvest, gathered on household plots, to the central mosques of the districts and cities of the republic to help the needy. The mosques of the republic accept vegetables and fruits: potatoes, cabbage, pumpkins, beets, carrots, onions, apples, plums, etc. The food collection will then be distributed in an organized manner to the needy.

      In Kazan, collection and distribution of gushr-sadaqa is carried out by the Zakat Charitable Foundation of DUM RT. Kazan residents who wish to take part in the charity campaign or, conversely, to receive food assistance under it, can call (843) 225-33-22. The food collection is delivered to charitable organizations, social institutions, Muslim educational institutions (madrasas, the Qur’an Hafiz Training Center, etc.), as well as directly to needy families locally. The Zakat Charitable Foundation has created a register of those in need that includes over 1,000 needy families. These include low-income households, large families, single-parent families, and families raising children with disabilities. All of them will receive food assistance as part of the gushr-sadaqa collection campaign.

      Thus, as a result of the active participation of Tatarstan residents in this socially significant initiative, the muhtasibats of Tatarstan collected and delivered to the needy the following amounts of vegetables and fruits in various years: 2017 – 160 tonnes, 2018 – 600 tonnes, 2019 – 1,109.5 tonnes, 2020 – about 1,000 tonnes, 2021 – 577.33 tonnes, 2022 – 1,377.34 tonnes, 2023 – about 827 tonnes, 2024 – 968 tonnes.
