In Transnistria, Moldovan authorities were accused of preventing PMR residents from participating in the elections.
The Transnistrian Foreign Ministry accused the authorities of the Republic of Moldova of deliberately preventing residents of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) from participating in the parliamentary elections. The statement was posted on the Telegram channel of the unrecognized PMR’s foreign ministry.
According to the Transnistrian Foreign Ministry, even before voting began the Moldovan authorities sharply reduced the number of polling stations that PMR residents could visit and moved some of them to geographically remote localities.
Today, on election day, on the bridges across the Dniester on the Moldovan side “artificial traffic jams have been organized, physical barriers installed, and excessive individual checks of citizens and vehicles are being used en masse.” Traffic on two bridges, Rybnitsa–Rezina and Kamenka–Senatovka, is now completely blocked, the Transnistrian Foreign Ministry added.
In addition, in the afternoon mass incidents of “telephone bomb threats” began at polling stations where Transnistrian residents vote. As a result, three of them have been closed. Besides that, a shortage of ballots was recorded at a number of polling stations.
In light of the above, the Transnistrian Foreign Ministry appealed to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and other mediators (Russia and Ukraine) for assistance in negotiations with Moldova in the “five-plus-two” format.
“We appeal to Moldova, as well as to all participants in the international settlement process, including the OSCE as a co-mediator, urging them to undertake timely efforts to remove all artificial restrictions and to genuinely ensure the rights and freedoms of Transnistrian residents,” the statement said.
Earlier, Moldovan police spokeswoman Diana Fetco told reporters that bomb threats came from 14 points on the border with Transnistria, where voting by residents of the unrecognized republic for the Moldovan parliament had been organized.
In turn, the chair of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, Angelica Caraman, rejected accusations of impeding access to polling stations in the parliamentary elections for citizens of the country living in Transnistria.
Today, September 28, parliamentary elections are being held in the Republic of Moldova. The main competitors are the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity, associated with the incumbent head of state Maia Sandu and considered pro-European, and the Patriotic Electoral Bloc led by former president Igor Dodon, who is considered pro-Russian.
