Evgeny Tishkovets explained: “On the last working day an anticyclone core will hang over Tatarstan, which means that the republic will have the highest atmospheric pressure in the entire European territory of Russia, reaching 770 mm Hg.” He did not rule out that this figure could become a record in the entire history of meteorological observations for the second half of the first week of October. According to data from the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, abnormally high atmospheric pressure has a serious effect on the human body. A slight reduction in heart rate and a decrease in minimum (diastolic) blood pressure are observed. Breathing becomes less frequent but deeper. In addition, hearing and smell may slightly decrease, and the voice may become more muffled.

      At-risk groups on such days primarily include weather-sensitive people, as well as those whose bodies are weakened by chronic illnesses. People with autonomic nervous system disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and elderly people should be especially careful. During periods of abnormally high atmospheric pressure they are advised to avoid intense physical exertion, monitor how they feel, and consult a doctor if necessary. Atmospheric pressure is the force with which the air presses on the surface of the Earth. A standard comfortable value for humans is considered to be 760 mm Hg. Pressure is one of the key indicators determining the weather: its rise is generally associated with clear and windless weather (an anticyclone), while its fall is associated with cloudiness and precipitation (a cyclone).
