Thirty-one teachers and an educator have joined the Zelenodolsk pedagogical family.

      Traditionally, on the eve of Teacher’s Day in Zelenodolsk a forum of young educators was held

      “A great hope rests on you!”

      This year 31 young specialists have joined our schools and kindergartens. They are well grounded theoretically, but so far they lack practical knowledge and skills. The aim of the forum is to help young teachers adapt to their new conditions. — “We have been eagerly waiting for you! The large Zelenodolsk teaching team places great hopes on you,” addressed the young colleagues Nailya Kopvillem, chair of the Zelenodolsk trade union organization. “The staffing issue in education is acute. We are interested in your careers being long, fruitful and interesting. Today veterans of pedagogical work, active young teachers and caregivers who in different years have become winners of the annual ‘Path to Mastery’ contest will share their experience. Since 2010 we have had a Young Teacher Club and a Council of Young Teachers. These platforms are open for dialogue and are always ready to lend a helping hand. I hope our recommendations today will be useful in your work. In the educational process of a growing generation there are always three participants: the parent, the child and the teacher. The key to success is their correct relationships. It doesn’t happen overnight.”

      Lowering the level of tension

      Today’s children are unofficially called “the first unmanageable generation.” Permissiveness and the lack of authorities are the most conflict-prone issues in relationships. Ways to resolve sharp moments vary. Olesya Farastovskaya, deputy director of the Observatory School, told how once, in a moment of despair when a bold prank by a girl crossed all boundaries and it seemed there was no way out, she hugged the pupil. A momentary confusion, and… the girl hugged the teacher back. The level of tension decreased and there was hope of solving the problem. — “Sometimes difficult children use negative behaviour simply to attract attention because they are deprived of love and care. Even in well-off families there are underloved and hurt children. Parents forget about this, or have no time to show their feelings, or think the child has grown and no longer needs it. But believe me, even at 16–17 he remains a child who needs warmth and involvement. So praise them more often, even for small things,” advised Olesya Nikolaevna.

      Conflict is not constructive

      Recently teachers and caregivers have had difficulty building relationships with parents. It’s no coincidence that many speakers touched on this topic. Often mothers refuse to accept that their child can do something bad; for them the child is the best. Therefore it is important to share the responsibility, not to hang everything on the parents. It’s better to say to them: “This is not your problem alone but our common problem, our child; let’s try to resolve the situation together.” Do not absolve yourself of responsibility. It would be good to immediately show ways to solve the problem. In any case: conflict is not constructive. — “Try to rely on legislative acts: the Law on Education, the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Family Code, the collective agreement of the educational institution. You must be able to defend your position competently and courteously, to uphold the status of the teacher with dignity,” urged Irina Shibalova, chair of the Young Teacher Club.

      Working without burnout

      The burden of responsibility, the need to make weighty decisions and respond quickly to situations — not everyone can withstand such pressures. What should one do so that after years they don’t want to change jobs? The answer is different for every teacher. Kristina Sergeeva from Lyceum No. 7 believes that the race for victory in the young teachers’ contest, running the school student council and preparing pupils for endless Olympiads led her to professional burnout. She realized she didn’t want to work the old way but didn’t know how to work in a new way. Senior mentors came to her aid. The teacher began attending forums in St. Petersburg, Izhevsk and Almetyevsk where she talked with colleagues and learned new pedagogical technologies. This helped her understand that she had not yet done everything on her pedagogical path.

      Some at the forum suggested finding time on weekends to decompress — doing sports, engaging in creative pursuits, attending cultural events, of which there are many in our city. Others advised learning to manage time so that at home you don’t think about work. At the forum’s close young teachers were asked: which of the proposed solutions to difficult situations stood out, and which universal key will you use if necessary? There were many answers, but all agreed — only sincere love can reach every child.

      Scholarship for the best

      For the second year the trade union organization awards a 10,000-ruble scholarship to the most active members of the Young Teacher Council and the winners of the “Path to Mastery” contest. This year it was awarded to Adilya Gattarova, speech therapist at Kindergarten No. 26 “Thumbelina,” and Elizaveta Petrova, primary school teacher at Lyceum No. 14.
