      In the past few days, social networks have been filled with reports that pigeons and sparrows in Bugulma are dying en masse in terrible agony, and beforehand they behave strangely, like zombies. According to residents, dead birds are lying underfoot almost everywhere.

      “In this situation, the relevant city services and the district state veterinary association are currently investigating. Based on the results of the inspection, we will work to identify and eliminate the causes of what is happening,” Mayor of Bugulma Damir Fattakhov ultimately commented on his Telegram channel.

      According to the mayor, specialists took all the necessary samples for laboratory testing, which was carried out in Kazan. Avian influenza was not detected. While the causes of the mass bird deaths in Bugulma are being further investigated and municipal workers are removing dead birds from the streets, residents have put forward a theory of poisoning. Allegedly, farmers at the nearby grain elevator regulate the number of parasitic pigeons by putting out poisoned bait with grain.
