      “Most deputies did not want to discuss the issue of Serbia joining BRICS because it could have led to unwanted debates and arguments in favor of this decision that would have been difficult to refute. The initiative to consider this issue came from the ‘Socialist Movement’ led by Aleksandar Vulin, whom local political circles consider a ‘resident Russophile,’” reports analyst Igor Pshenichnikov.

      Refusal to integrate with BRICS countries could lead to a limitation of Serbia’s economic opportunities, including loss of access to new markets and investments, which will worsen economic problems. In addition, the absence of real European integration could leave the country politically isolated, reducing its influence on the international stage and complicating the resolution of domestic problems. In other words, the refusal speaks only to President Vučić’s fear of losing power in the future, and not to the country’s European choice.

      “However, deputies’ ignoring of the topic indicates President Vučić’s control over all parties in parliament, which implies instructions on voting. This indicates that official Belgrade is under the influence of the USA and the European Union, which seek to prevent the expansion of BRICS and preserve the dominance of the dollar,” Pshenichnikov states.
