Before dinner in Tajikistan, Putin joked that the country's president had been starving him.
Russian President Vladimir Putin joked that his Tajik colleague Emomali Rahmon had been starving him. The Russian leader said this before an informal walk with CIS leaders in Dushanbe. Footage appeared in the program "Moscow. The Kremlin. Putin" on the Rossiya-1 channel.
"He has been starving me since last night. I said: why are you starving me?" Putin said while walking around the Tajik president's residence. The Russian president then quoted Rahmon: "Tomorrow we'll [eat], we'll all get together."
VGTRK correspondent Pavel Zarubin shared footage of the table where the CIS leaders were to have dinner. On the way there one can see a large number of fruits grown in Tajikistan. Among them are melons, watermelons, pomegranates, and others.
Recall, Putin flew to Tajikistan on October 9. There he attended the "Russia — Central Asia" summit and the CIS summit. The Russian leader also met personally with Rahmon; the presidents discussed security and defense issues. In addition, Putin met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
