They spoke about the characteristics of extremist and terrorist organizations
Refresher courses for journalists were held as one component of the package of measures of the State Program of the Republic of Tatarstan "Ensuring Public Order and Combating Crime." The training was organized by the Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications "Tatmedia" together with the Office of the Anti-Terrorist Commission in the Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.
Participants included journalists, editors, producers, news service coordinators, SMM specialists, press secretaries of relevant ministries and employees of press services of republican organizations. A total of 45 people took part in the training.
The training took the form of lectures given by professors from Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Kazan Innovative University named after V. G. Timiryasov, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Institute of International Relations and World History of Lobachevsky University, and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba.
Representatives of the Office of the Anti-Terrorist Commission in the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tatarstan, the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, as well as the Expert Advisory Council under the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, told the trainees about the characteristics of various extremist and terrorist organizations.
"An improperly reported news story can lead to serious consequences"
Journalists were spoken to about how an improperly reported news story can lead to serious consequences. About how not to become an accomplice of terrorists when reporting information about an incident, and how not to panic while working at the scene of an emergency.
The training program included lectures on telephone and cyber fraud — a type of crime that has been gaining momentum in recent years and inflicts serious damage on the public. It is precisely the work of journalists that helps people learn about new schemes devised by fraudsters almost every day. This is what allows the media to help people be prepared for any call from telephone scammers. It is no secret that such crimes unsettle the situation in the country: fraudsters not only rob people but also turn them into accomplices, condemning them to lengthy prison terms.
During the training, they also discussed key features of ensuring Russia’s national security in the area of countering terrorism and extremism, the laws and the responsibility for improperly reported information.
"It is precisely thanks to your professionalism that a stable public opinion is formed"
At the end of the training, media workers received certificates of advanced training.
At the closing of the refresher courses, the head of the Office of the Anti-Terrorist Commission of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ildus Garaev, congratulated the graduates on successfully completing the training. He emphasized the importance of the profession they had chosen, noting that competence, objectivity and the ability to convey information correctly play a key role in the effectiveness of measures to counter terrorist threats.
"It is precisely thanks to your professionalism that a stable public opinion is formed, contributing to the timely detection and prevention of potential risks," Ildus Garaev said.
The head of the ATC office in the RT urged course participants to adhere to standards of professional ethics, continue to develop critical thinking and avoid the influence of manipulations, stressing that the safety and well-being of society largely depend on their efforts.
"All lecturers are very professional; they tried to give the maximum amount of information"
"For the first time I attended such courses, and I liked them very much. It was as if you tear yourself away from work and 'adult' life and for a couple of days become a student. It was noteworthy that the classes were held in an atmospheric place — the KFU library, where I often used to be during my student years. It was nice to see my colleague journalists, representatives of press services and talk to them — how often does that happen? All the lecturers are very professional, and it was clear that they tried to give the maximum amount of information in a short time. I especially liked the lectures by the chief economist of the branch of the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Ivanov, the operative officer for especially important cases of the Department for the Disclosure of Fraud of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the RT, Radis Yusupov, and Doctor of Political Sciences Sergey Grachev. I noted several names for myself — I plan to interview them in the near future," said Elizaveta Cherkina, correspondent of the newspaper Kazan Vedomosti.
TNV channel correspondent Ramil Shaidullin emphasized that the knowledge gained will definitely be useful in his work.
"Many thanks to the organizers. Taking the courses on anti-extremism issues turned out to be useful and informative. It was interesting to listen to the speakers, including federal experts from various fields. They helped to better understand the terminology and the current situation on the topic both in the republic and in the country. The material was presented accessibly and clearly, which made the training truly productive," he said.
Editor-in-chief of the Islam Today portal, Guzaliya Biktemirova, noted that she liked the lecture on the specifics of covering issues of countering terrorism and its ideology based on regional experience the most. Incidentally, this class was conducted by Doctor of Political Sciences Sergey Grachev.
"Courses of this kind are always useful for the journalistic community. I believe that all the speakers who gave lectures were useful to us, and in the future we will use our acquaintance with them in our work, we will seek their comments as experts. It is important that the lectures were given not by theorists, but by those who have faced terrorists and extremists in practice and have worked in hot spots," she noted.
Guzaliya Biktemirova shared that she refreshed her knowledge and listened to all the lectures with interest.
"Our site pays a lot of attention to anti-terrorist topics, work with neophytes, migrants and other topics that were discussed in the training. Therefore, this was useful to me," the editor-in-chief said.
