The Zainsk City Court has issued a decision in the droppers' case.

      Three young men were sentenced to different prison terms for fraud.

      An organized group cheated residents of several districts of Tatarstan out of more than one million rubles.

      At the Zainsk City Court, presided over by Judge Ramil Bikmiev, a guilty verdict was delivered against three residents of the Aksubayevsky and Novosheshminsky districts, aged between 21 and 25. The young men were found guilty of fraud committed by an organized group, causing significant damage. They played a key role in the criminal scheme, acting as so‑called droppers.

      According to the criminal case materials, the defendants were part of an organized group of six people. It operated across Tatarstan, primarily targeting elderly people. The scammers specifically called residents of the Zainsk, Aznakayevsky, Chistopolsky and Mamadyshsky districts, posing as lawyers or investigators. They told elderly people false information that their relatives had been involved in a road traffic accident and demanded large sums of money to "cover up" the criminal case. The total damage caused by the group's actions exceeded one million rubles. About ten people were recognized as victims in the case.

      The criminal case was heard in the Zainsk City Court. On the eve of the verdict, on September 30, closing arguments were held in which the public prosecutor and the defendants' lawyers spoke. After that the defendants exercised their right to make a final statement.

      On October 1, Judge Ramil Bikmiev read out the operative part of the sentence. The court, taking into account the role and degree of participation of each, imposed real custodial sentences. Two of the defendants were sentenced to 3 years each in a general‑regime corrective colony. One convict was sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment in a colony of the same type.

      At the time the sentence was announced, two of the defendants were in custody; the third was taken into custody right in the courtroom.

      In addition to criminal punishment, the court ordered the convicts to pay funds to the victims to compensate for the material damage caused. Property used in the criminal activity or acquired with criminal proceeds was also confiscated: mobile phones, cash and a car.

      The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed in the prescribed manner.
