From October 17 to 19 the village of Vysokaya Gora became the center of intellectual sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, where intense chess competitions were held as part of the 22nd rural Spartakiad "Sälamätlek". The strongest chess players from rural settlements across the republic took part in the tournament. Over three days Vysokaya Gora was filled with a special, tense atmosphere, where the silence was broken only by the strict count of the chess clock and the clicking of chess pieces. Zainsky District was worthily represented at these prestigious competitions by experienced players Alexander Utyaganov and Galina Butakova.
Their performance was a vivid example of sporting will and skill. In fierce competition Alexander Utyaganov showed character and outstanding tactical preparation, which allowed him, after a hard-fought struggle, to win an honorable third place in the individual championship. This personal victory became key to the overall success.
Galina Butakova’s persistent play and Alexander Utyaganov’s bronze medal together brought Zainsky District another significant award — third place in the overall team standings in chess. Thus, the district team returned home with two bronze medals, demonstrating cohesion and high potential.
This double success was a worthy outcome of the competition and an important contribution to Zainsky District’s overall team score within the large-scale Spartakiad "Sälamätlek", whose main goals are promoting a healthy lifestyle and developing mass sport in rural areas.
