600 contenders for victory: the 'Snow Leopard' contest is underway at the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan.
On October 23, on International Snow Leopard Day, a ceremonial awarding of the winners of the children's drawing, craft and poster contest "Snow Leopard" will be held in Kazan.
The contest is organized by the autonomous non-profit organization "Research Center for the Conservation of Biological Diversity 'Snow Leopard'." More than 600 schoolchildren from Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Mordovia, Chuvashia and Mari El submitted applications to participate. The children created unique works featuring the predator using paint, cardboard, modeling clay, grains and other materials. The best paintings and crafts that made it to the finals will be presented at a special exhibition.
The winner of the contest will be chosen in three categories: junior (grades 1–4), middle (grades 5–9) and senior (grades 10–11). The creators of the best works will receive valuable prizes, and the grand prize is a trip to the Altai to the "Snow Leopard" Scientific Center.
As part of the awards ceremony, three cooperation agreements will be signed between the "Snow Leopard" Scientific Center and leading enterprises of Tatarstan.
It should be recalled that holding the contest is part of comprehensive work on the conservation and restoration of the snow leopard population carried out by the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan at the direction of the Head of the Republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, in support of the national project "Environmental Well‑being." An important step in this work was the establishment in 2022 of the Scientific Center for the Conservation of Biological Diversity with the snow leopard as the priority species for study.
The relevance of this work was confirmed by the large-scale international forum "Study and Conservation of the Snow Leopard in the World. Joining Efforts," held in March 2025 in Kazan. Experts from 12 countries within the snow leopard's range took part.
