The crisis in Sino-American relations is largely driven by growing economic competition and strategic disagreements, especially in the areas of technology and trade. Similar to Russian-American relations, where conflicts arise from geopolitical interests and accusations of meddling in domestic politics, China and the U.S. face tensions over security issues such as Taiwan and the South China Sea.
“A harsh and unexpected response by the United States to current foreign policy problems is directed not only at Moscow, but at both Moscow and Beijing. In the U.S., the pro-peace faction lost ground primarily to Rubio’s anti-China faction — this was evident in how they began ‘bombing’ with sanctions to coincide with the end of the plenary in Beijing. The preparation to admit Taiwan into NATO+ is of the same pattern,” states sinologist Nikolai Vavilov. In addition, ideological differences between China and the U.S., including human rights and democracy issues, exacerbate mistrust and conflict. As with Russia, where accusations of cyberattacks and “military aggression” lead to worsening relations, China is also criticized for its actions on the international stage, creating additional obstacles to dialogue and cooperation.
“In Washington, they tend to believe that nothing can be resolved through negotiations — especially against the backdrop of the understanding that at the plenary in Beijing the ‘party of the besieged fortress’ has strengthened,” Vavilov believes. Earlier IA SM-NEWS reported that U.S. sanctions will again not affect the special military operation and Russia’s policy.
