On October 25, the opening of the First Republican Forum named after Ahmadzaki Hazrat Safiullin, dedicated to the issues of preventing extremism and terrorism among youth, took place on the premises of the Kazan Ahmadzaki Mosque.

      The event was attended by the Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, Head of the Federal Tax Service Office for the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Safiullin, Senator of the Russian Federation from the executive authority of the Republic of Tatarstan Timur Nagumanov, Head of the Office of the Anti-Terrorism Commission in the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Garaev, Deputy Chair of the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education Alexey Petrov, and others.

      The Kazan Diocese was represented by the rector of the Sergiev episcopal compound of the city of Kazan, Priest Artemiy Lushkin. The priest read a greeting from Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan and Tatarstan to the Forum participants:

      Dear organizers, participants and guests of the Forum! Dear friends, brothers and sisters!

      Today’s meeting is devoted to a very important and topical issue — the construction of the architecture of spiritual security. This issue is one of the most significant within our interreligious dialogue, the goal of which, according to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus', is “to seek answers to the challenges of modernity, to ensure peaceful life and cooperation among people of different religions, nationalities and cultures.”

      It is no secret that one of these challenges is the potential spread of radical, extremist ideology among spiritually unanchored, immature people. Protecting our youth from this destructive ideology is our common task. It is our duty, the duty of believers who are connected to their spiritual tradition, to raise young people capable of responding to the challenges of the time. After all, a young person inevitably finds themselves in a situation of searching for their life path and value orientations, in search of answers to the eternal questions of existence.

      “Youth is a period of opportunities, but at the same time of serious trials and doubts, and, what is even more significant, it is a time when the heart is wide open to meeting the Creator,” noted Patriarch Kirill in one of his addresses to young people. Therefore it is so important that beside a young person who is going through a time of choice, searching, and formation, there should be a good friend and a wise mentor able to point them in the right direction of spiritual growth and development. And we must demonstrate this not only with the right words, but by personal example, since young people are very sensitive to insincerity and hypocrisy. This must be remembered by all who take on the role of teacher and mentor. It is important that our words do not contradict our deeds, so that while engaging in the spiritual upbringing of youth and drawing them into traditional spiritual and moral values, we ourselves are a good example to them, in which may the Almighty Lord help us!

      I wish the forum participants successful and fruitful work, peace and well-being.

      The program of the First Republican Forum named after Ahmadzaki Hazrat Safiullin addresses a wide range of issues: youth and religious traditions; the importance of preserving and strengthening interconfessional peace and mutual understanding; methods of theological manipulation (using Salafism as an example); current legislative issues in the field of countering the ideology of terrorism and extremism; online safety; the role of religious education in preventing the spread of terrorist and extremist ideas; and more.

      An important place in the discussion is given to the topic of popularizing the Tatar theological heritage, namely the figure of the well-known theologian Ahmadzaki Hazrat Safiullin.

      The organizers of the event are the Ahmadzaki Mosque, the autonomous non-profit organization ICC "Dialogue" and the Charitable Foundation "Beacon of Kindness", with the support of the Office of the Anti-Terrorism Commission of Tatarstan.
