      A dangerous situation has developed in the Nagorny settlement of the city of Kazan due to a large number of stray dogs. The animals regularly attack local residents, including minors.

      An unpleasant incident occurred involving a group of schoolgirls who were returning from a shop on Taezhnaya Street. An aggressive pack of dogs appeared in their path. The animals showed aggression, and only thanks to a local fed dog called Druzhok were the girls able to escape. Unfortunately, the rescuer himself was seriously injured and taken to a veterinary clinic.

      Local residents link the source of the danger to a neighboring SNT (a dacha gardeners’ association), where vacationers feed the animals in the summer. When the weather turns cold, the dogs unite into packs and head to the settlement, where they hunt cats and puppies and also attack people. The authorities’ inaction causes particular alarm among residents. Despite numerous appeals from citizens, the problem remains unresolved. According to local residents, a zoo center is responsible for organizing the capture, but animal defenders are putting pressure on it, claiming that the dogs are safe and are roaming freely.

      The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan has initiated a procedural check into the alleged improper organization of stray dog capture. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed the head of the Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for the RT, Valery Lipsky, to present a detailed report on the progress and results of the check.
