"At heart I'm a Tatar, my last name is Georgian": how Sarmanovo celebrated National Unity Day

      Two large ethno-cultural festivals were held in the Sarmanovsky district. Representatives of twenty nationalities living in the district took part in the events.

      The celebration began with the writing of the Big Ethnographic Dictation. Cultural workers, members of amateur groups and folk ensembles attended in national costumes. This immediately created an atmosphere of respect for traditions and emphasized the richness of the cultural heritage of the peoples living on Sarmanov land.

      The leader of the "Chishmä" ensemble at the Murtysh-Tamak village House of Culture, Munira Ismagilova, shared her impressions.

      "We take part in the Big Ethnographic Dictation every year with our ensemble. It is an excellent opportunity to increase knowledge, recall the history and everyday life of different peoples. I believe the dictation is an important event that helps strengthen respect for nationalities and friendship between them," she said.

      Participants of the folk ensemble "Igania" from the village of Lyaki — Tamara Podvalova and Galina Takarlikova — also spoke about the unity of peoples.

      "We have been friends with Tatars and representatives of other nations all our lives. We hold celebrations together such as Peter's Day, Sabantuy, and Maslenitsa. Today we also gathered with friends from different villages to write the ethnographic dictation. We really enjoy such meetings."

      The festive events continued within the framework of the Day of National Unity and the Constitution Day of the Republic of Tatarstan. The concert opened with a choreographic performance by the "Jasmin" ensemble from the Sarmanov Children's School of Arts. Their dance became a symbol of the friendship of the peoples living in the republic.

      With a welcoming speech to the participants, the head of the district, Farit Khusnullin, addressed the audience. He noted that such celebrations unite all who love their Motherland and share the ideas of unity, civic solidarity, patriotism and justice.

      "We live in Tatarstan — a multinational republic that is developing prosperously. We are proud of the glorious history of our country and look confidently to the future. I would like the younger generation to adopt the national and spiritual values accumulated over centuries. Let them become a reliable foundation for new achievements of our Fatherland and the republic. The hardworking population of the Sarmanovsky district has also made a worthy contribution to the development of a multinational Tatarstan and Russia," stated the head of the municipality.

      Outstanding workers were honored at the celebration. From the stage, songs about love and friendship were performed in Russian and Tatar, and dances of different peoples were presented. A true highlight of the program was the performance by Yana Gureshidze, a Georgian employee of the Jalil Palace of Culture and winner of numerous competitions. She performed a song in Georgian.

      "I was born in Tatarstan: my mother is Tatar, my father is Georgian. In spirit I am also Tatar, although I have kept my Georgian surname. I work at the Jalil Palace of Culture, I have my own vocal studio where talented singers and ensembles study. We often take part in competitions and win. Recently, together with Honored Artist of Bashkortostan Gulnaz Asaeva, I performed the song 'Min sine shunday sagyndym'. Our republic is amazingly beautiful, the people are united. I am happy that I began my path as a musician and creative person right here, in Tatarstan," said the performer.

      A special moment of the celebration was the performance by Fler Shakirov — the younger brother of the outstanding singer Ilgam Shakirov. He presented locals with a song in memory of the legendary artist.

      Veterans and participants of the special military operation, soldiers on leave, and their families were invited to the event.

      Another large festive event took place at the Jalil Palace of Culture. The ensembles "Duslyk", "Rodniki" and "Aprel" performed there, songs and dances reflecting the friendship of peoples were heard, and a documentary film was shown.

      The exemplary children's choreographic ensemble "Aprel", in which more than fifty girls study, presented dances of the Volga peoples — Russian, Tatar, Bashkir, Mari, Kryashen and Chuvash.

      "In our repertoire there are children's dances as well as productions with elements of various styles. But the main part consists of folk dances. The girls study them with interest, because culture is our history. A people that does not know its past has no future. Knowledge of history strengthens the unity and friendship of peoples, enriches our spiritual world," emphasized the ensemble leader Veronika Gamirova.

      Earlier, the residents of Tatarstan were congratulated on the Day of National Unity by the Rais of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, and the Chairman of the State Council of the RT, Farid Mukhametshin.
