      Employees of the municipal unitary enterprise "Vodokanal" of Kazan extract about 9 tons of foreign objects from the sewer system every day. Since the beginning of the year the volume of retrieved trash has reached 2,684 cubic meters. Among the items entering the drains are hygiene products, food and even electronics.

      According to the head of the Sewerage Management Department, Marat Sibgatullin, between 40 and 50 blockages are recorded daily in Kazan. Because of foreign objects 38 pump units have failed, and the enterprise’s total losses amount to millions of rubles.

      Over the nine months of 2025 emergency crews cleared more than 12,800 blockages. Tens of millions of rubles are spent annually on clearing blockages and repairing equipment — money that could be directed to infrastructure development.
