In Tatarstan, 19 new "smart" traffic lights were installed as part of a new national project.
Under the national project "Infrastructure for Life," 19 new "smart" traffic lights have been installed in Tatarstan this year. This was reported to Tatar-inform by Karim Nurmukhametov, head of the Road Management Department of the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan.
"Under the new national project 'Infrastructure for Life,' the implementation of intelligent transportation systems has continued. Thirteen new traffic lights with adaptive control systems have been installed in Kazan and six in Naberezhnye Chelny," he said.
According to Nurmukhametov, intelligent transportation systems help distribute traffic flows more efficiently. Currently, 250 traffic lights in Kazan and 35 in Naberezhnye Chelny provide adaptive traffic management, which increases road throughput, he clarified.
"Regarding the implementation of intelligent transportation systems, a huge amount of work was carried out from 2020 to 2024. During this time, 500 traffic flow monitoring detectors have been installed in the agglomerations to collect movement data," the department head emphasized.
He added that 88 photo- and video-enforcement complexes for traffic violations have been deployed. Two automatic weight and dimensional control stations for freight transport have been installed. In addition, 200 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor road conditions.
"Ninety-nine traffic lights have been modernized to operate in adaptive traffic control mode. Two of them have been equipped with subsystems for video surveillance, accident detection and emergency situations. Fifteen weather stations are also operating to monitor weather conditions," Nurmukhametov noted.
