Two women from the Zelenodolsk District fell victim to scammers, losing a total of 4 million rubles.
Both victims went to the district police on November 13.
One of the victims was a 77-year-old pensioner from Zelenodolsk. For seven days unknown callers phoned her mobile and warned of a threat of an unauthorized transfer of her bank savings to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To prevent this, she was advised to hand over her money for safekeeping. Following these instructions, in the yard of her home she handed 3,300,000 rubles to a stranger.
Another victim of the fraudsters was a 19-year-old resident of the settlement of Osinovo. The perpetrators offered her the opportunity to earn profits through online betting. For a week, hoping for a win, the young woman transferred money to the criminals’ electronic wallet. Her savings quickly ran out, which she reported to her “handlers.” After that they stopped responding and blocked their contact numbers. As a result, the victim lost more than 690,000 rubles.
Criminal cases have been opened in both incidents on charges under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, “Fraud.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan warns:
* double-check any information received from strangers;
* in telephone conversations with people you do not know, do not disclose the existence of savings and bank accounts/cards;
* before taking any actions recommended by people unknown to you, consult with your relatives.
