      Work has begun in Kazan’s “Black Lake” park to prepare the rink and the skate rental point. While the weather does not yet permit beginning ice flooding, specialists are tidying up the pond area and engineering systems: they are draining the lake basin, covering the wooden steps with a plywood structure, laying rubber surfacing from the rental point to the rink, and more.

      According to the parks and squares directorate, heavy rains have once again caused water to accumulate in the pond basin. A pump is currently operating on site to pump it out ahead of the upcoming cleaning. The basin floor needs to be completely cleared of mud and small debris — during flooding they can float up and compromise the quality of the surface.

      To protect the wooden steps by the pond, they have been covered with a sturdy plywood structure. It will protect the wood from skate blades, cold and moisture, and will also serve as a convenient resting area for visitors.

      Meanwhile the rental point is being prepared: rubber surfacing has already been partially laid on the path from the rental point to the rink to ensure a safe passage. This year, 370 pairs of skates will be available for rent to city residents.

      They will begin flooding the ice as soon as the temperature drops below zero and remains that way for several days. The work will traditionally take place in two stages: first the basin will be manually filled with water using hoses, then an ice resurfacer will level the surface.

      Recall that this year 105 places for ice skating will be organized in the republic’s capital: 83 of them are hockey rinks, and 22 are rinks with rental points. In total, Kazan’s sports centers plan to renew 200 pairs of rental skates.
