Scammers deceived a pensioner under the pretext of recalculating his pension.

      An 80-year-old local resident contacted the duty unit of the "Gvardeisky" police department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kazan, reporting that 500,000 rubles had been stolen from him.

      It was established that a stranger called the elderly man and, introducing himself as an employee of the pension fund, said that in order to recalculate the pension he needed to read out the code from an SMS message, which the pensioner did. After that, following the callers' instructions, he handed over 500,000 rubles via a courier. Only later did the victim realize he had fallen under the influence of fraudsters and turned to the police.

      A criminal case has been initiated under the elements of the crime provided for in part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud").

      The Kazan police remind that for any questions related to pensions and other social payments, you should independently call the unified contact center of the Social Fund of Russia or contact the nearest branch of the fund.

      It is strictly forbidden to disclose personal data, card details, SMS codes, as well as usernames and passwords for your accounts to strangers.
